Apple TV in the Business

Since Apple released the iPad in April 2010 the business world has evolved and businesses across the country have turned to iPads to improve their efficiency and mobility, stay connected and better service their clients.  The iPad adoption rates have been phenomenal for a technology sector Apple created less than two years ago.  At the recent CCH User Conference, Mobility was highlighted as an area CCH was focusing on for future development.

With the release of iOS5, Apple has rolled out a missing piece that will allow for a broader adoption of the iPad in business.  In 2010, many people purchased an iPad as a content consumption device (listening to music, watching movies, reading books, reading email, etc…) but as it's become more integrated into business it has become a means of communicating with clients and improved access to information.

The capability now exists to take the screen of your iDevice (iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch) and mirror that on a TV or projector in a conference room.  This allows you to have a tax return, presentation, or any other document you work on outside the conference room on the iPad and share it with the entire room without having to huddling around a small 10 inch screen, completely wireless.  Simply walk in the conference room and enable mirroring (on the iPad by simply clicking one button) and the screen of your iPad is now shared with the entire room.

Apple TV is a small device that cost $99 and extends the capabilities of the iPad into the conference room.  Apple TV does allow you to stream movies, music, and videos; play Netflix and other things, but more importantly it allows mirroring.  You do need to have a wireless network in order to use this device; the iPad and Apple TV both connected to it.

Enjoy!
